A Click Frozen in Time

I recently rediscovered my passion for film photography thanks to a good friend of mine. I started film photography years ago when I took photography 101 in college. This introductory course gave me an exposure to black and white photography. I was using a Nikon F2 that my dad gave me. During that semester, I had weekly assignments ranging from street photography, to architectural, to nature, to candid portraits. When I was done with a roll of film, I used the darkroom at my school to develop my negatives and made black and white prints. Then during class, everyone selected their best prints and discussed our pictures. We talked about our composition, contrast, highlights and if our picture was over/under exposed. It was a fun experience that helped me gained my knowledge in film photography.

My major wasn’t in photography, journalism, or in any forms of arts. So, for years, photography was in the back burner, stuck in the way back of my brain, waiting for a spark to reignite a hobby that I once had. I found that spark 2 years ago and I have been slowly getting back into analog photography. Although, I do have a digital mirrorless camera, I find myself gravitate towards my film cameras whenever I go out and shoot. Most of my work tends to focus on small towns with a historic downtown. Basically, anything old and I will have an immediate interest in taking a picture of it. I am also looking forward to doing more portraits, street photography, landscape, and random abstract stuff.

I have also started collecting analog cameras. I have a soft spot for Nikon cameras since the F2 was the very first SLR camera I’ve used. I have been building my Nikon collection. So far, I have collected Nikon F, F2, F3, F4, FA, FM2, and the mirrorless Zf. My go to cameras currently is the Nikon FA and Nikon F3. I also purchased a couple Medium Format cameras to help expand my knowledge and creativity.

I created this page to share my work so you can see what I see through the view finder. I develop and scan all my negatives. I also have an enlarger to develop my own prints that are mounted on mat boards ready to be framed. I hope by visiting my page you will also be inspired and start your own film photography.
